How to install motocross graphics

Installing your new Motopro Graphics motocross graphics kit the right way ensures long-lasting adhesion, clean edges, and a professional factory finish.

This step-by-step guide will show you how to properly install:

Dirt bike graphics
Motocross plastics kits
ATV graphics
Jet ski graphics
Custom number plate decals
Follow these proven installation tips to make your graphics last through motos, trail rides, and wash cycles.

Tools Needed

Before installing your motocross graphics kit, gather the following tools:

Microfiber towels
Rubbing alcohol (70%+ recommended)
Mild soap and water
Heat gun (highly recommended)
Plastic squeegee or credit card wrapped in cloth
Razor blade or hobby knife
Adhesive remover (if reusing plastics)
Using the right tools will dramatically improve adhesion and reduce lifting.

Step 1: Proper Plastic Preparation (Most Important Step)

Proper prep is the #1 reason dirt bike graphics succeed or fail.

Installing Graphics on New Plastics
Wipe plastics thoroughly with rubbing alcohol.
Remove any factory mold-release residue.
Let plastics fully dry before installation.
Installing Graphics on Used Plastics
Remove old graphics using a heat gun.
Remove leftover adhesive with adhesive remover.
Wash plastics with soap and water.
Finish with a full alcohol wipe-down.
⚠️ Any oil, dirt, silicone, or residue will cause graphics to lift.

Step 2: Test Fit Your Motocross Graphics Kit

Before removing backing paper:

Dry fit each piece.
Identify bolt holes and edges.
Lightly tack one side down first.
Work from the center outward.
Never apply the full graphic all at once.

Proper alignment prevents wrinkles and stretching.

Step 3: Use Heat for Professional Results

Using heat is the secret to professional motocross graphics installation.

Set heat gun to LOW.
Lightly warm the vinyl before applying.
Apply gentle tension around curves.
Post-heat edges after installation.
Heat activates the adhesive and helps vinyl conform to plastics.

Do NOT overstretch cold vinyl.

Step 4: Removing Air Bubbles

Small air bubbles are normal during installation.

Use a squeegee to push air toward edges.
Warm vinyl slightly if needed.
Small bubbles often disappear within 24–48 hours.
For stubborn bubbles, use a fine pin and press flat.
Avoid aggressive stretching.

⏳ Step 5: Let Graphics Cure Properly

After installing your dirt bike graphics:

Let plastics sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
Avoid riding immediately.
Avoid washing for 48 hours.
Store in a warm environment during curing.
Adhesive strength increases significantly after curing.

❌ Installing over dirty plastics
❌ Skipping alcohol prep
❌ Not using heat
❌ Stretching cold vinyl
❌ Riding immediately after install
